Lumbar belt, hip brace, sciatica orthosis, heating belt... The terms sound similar, and marketing descriptions don't really help you choose.
This comparison answers one simple question: which product fits your specific situation?
1. The 4 main product categories
The rigid lumbar belt
With stays or back plates, it immobilizes the lumbar spine. Primarily used post-operatively or for vertebral fractures. Should never be worn for more than a few weeks — prolonged immobilization weakens stabilizer muscles.
The flexible lumbar belt
The best-selling product in pharmacies (Thuasne, Gibaud). It supports the lumbar region without immobilization. Useful for physical work and prevention. Main limitation: it does not cover the hip or buttock — key areas in sciatica.
The hip brace
Covers the hip-pelvis-buttock area. Better suited for sciatica than a lumbar belt alone, as it acts where nerve compression occurs most frequently.
The 4-in-1 therapeutic belt
Combines support, active heat, vibration massage, and therapeutic red light. Acts simultaneously on mechanical compression and the tissue-based causes of pain. This is the category of the Soreva Belt.

3. Which product for your situation?
Choose a flexible lumbar belt if: your pain is mainly in the lower back without radiating · you need it for occasional physical work · you are looking for a product covered by insurance with a prescription · your budget is under €40.
Choose a classic hip brace if: the pain is in the buttock or hip and you do not need heat or massage · you only require mechanical support.
Choose the Soreva 4-in-1 Therapeutic Belt if: pain radiates from the buttock down the leg (sciatica or piriformis) · you suffer from chronic or recurring pain · you want to avoid or reduce medication · you are active and want a device that can be used at the office, while traveling, or during light activity.
4. How to choose your size
Measure your waist circumference at the navel — not the hips. The Soreva Belt is made of fully adjustable flexible neoprene, fitting up to a 130 cm waist circumference.
💡 Whether you lose or gain weight, the adjustment system adapts to changes in your physique — no need to buy a different size.
5. The reimbursement question
Simple lumbar support belts can be partially reimbursed by the Social Security system (in France) with a medical prescription (SS base: approx. €19 to €25).
Active therapeutic devices like the Soreva Belt (heat, red light, massage) are not listed in the LPPR and are not reimbursed by Social Security. However, some supplemental insurance plans (mutuelles) reimburse part of the cost upon submission of an invoice. Check your policy.
6. How long should you wear the belt?
Active therapeutic use (Soreva): 20 to 30 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day during the acute phase · 20 to 30 min per day for chronic maintenance · all day in support-only mode if needed.
Classic support belt: 4 to 8 hours maximum per day · do not exceed 3 months without medical re-evaluation · always combine with a muscle strengthening program.
No belt replaces physical therapy or muscle strengthening. It acts as a supplement — not a replacement.
🔷 4 functions. 1 device. 0 medication.
✦ Heat 45°C–65°C · ✦ 105 LEDs 660 nm · ✦ 2 motors 6,000 rpm · ✦ Neoprene up to 130 cm
Where classic belts stop at mechanical support, the Soreva Belt acts on the 4 mechanisms of the pain cycle simultaneously.

Can you sleep with a lumbar belt?
With a classic flexible belt: possible but generally uncomfortable. With the Soreva Belt: yes, particularly in gentle red-light mode without intense heat, for overnight therapy.
Can the belt make sciatica worse?
A rigid corset worn for too long can weaken stabilizer muscles. A flexible support used reasonably with a strengthening program does not present this risk.
Are there any contraindications?
General contraindications include: open wounds in the area, allergy to materials (check for "latex-free"), active skin conditions. As a precaution, consult your doctor in case of skin sensitivity disorders or metal implants in the area.
Is the Soreva Belt suitable for both men and women?
Yes — it is unisex and adjustable up to 130 cm. The hip-buttock-lumbar coverage area is suitable for both body types.
